Conducting a Literature Review

Please bring your laptop, if possible

In this workshop, learn how to conduct a comprehensive literature review using a systematic process and a variety of methods and tools. Topics to be covered include (but are not limited to):

  • defining and refining your topic and keywords
  • developing and documenting your search strategy and process (including the use of a research log)
  • utilizing library tools such as databases and citation management software, including other lesser-known techniques such as citation mapping, saving searches, and setting up search alerts
  • identifying the most relevant sources for your work
  • using methods to critically read and evaluate sources
  • synthesizing sources for a variety of endpoints, including developing citation lists, annotated bibliographies, and finally a written lit review
