As a testament to the collegial and integrative atmosphere in the BCTR, the Student Mixer was proposed by the BCTR Student Engagement Committee to join together students from a range of departments and disciplines in an informal setting where undergraduate Research Assistants can talk candidly with current graduate students about their respective education and career trajectories. Following a “speed-dating” format, undergraduates will not only meet graduate students from diverse backgrounds through a series of brief one-on-one meetings, but will also cultivate mentee-mentor partnerships.

The thriving tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration is a core component of the research activities in the BCTR. Individuals at all levels will come together to seek and give advice about life within and outside of academia. This event gives graduate students the chance to develop mentorship skills in a low-pressure environment while inviting undergraduates to inquire about the “next steps” in their own trajectories. All undergraduate and graduate students are welcome, regardless of year, background, or experience.

Snacks and drinks will be served. RSVP to Patty Thayer (pmt6) by Wed., Oct. 16 so we can order enough food.
