Available Datasets on Children

Through more than 20 BCTR projects, we have accumulated a wealth of data. We are pleased to be able to share the following child datasets with Cornell faculty, academic staff, and graduate students.

  • 4-H participant data
    Demographic information on all 4-H youth in New York State, as well as more in-depth information for some youth who are involved in long-term programs
  • CARE data
    Data collected includes the following information around youth in residential childcare settings: respondent demographic information; staff perceptions of practice, beliefs, and knowledge; youth perceptions of care, including staff attachment
  • Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System Data (AFCARS)
    Includes extensive information on all children ever in foster care since 2000
  • National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS)
    Includes extensive information on virtually all children with a maltreatment investigation since 2004
  • Longitudinal Studies of Child Abuse and Neglect (LONGSCAN)
    A large longitudinal study of children and families exposed to maltreatment
  • National Survey on Child and Adolescent Wellbeing (NSCAW)
    A large longitudinal study of children and families who come into contact with Child Protective Services
  • National Incidence Study (NIS)
    A four-wave study used to assess the prevalence of child maltreatment
